Music Monday: Redefinition

From Andrew Peterson's "For The Love of God"

Now, love is not a feeling in your chest
It is bending down to wash another’s feet
It is faithful when the sun is in the west
And in the east

It can hurt you as it holds you
In its overwhelming flood
Till only the unshakable is left
"This new command I give you," He said,
"Love as I have loved"
So brother, love her better than yourself
And give her your heart

Chorus
For the love of God
In the name of Jesus
The groom who gave his life
To love his bride

Old definition: Love is an emotion, a feeling, and is intangible.

New definition: Love is an action, in doing something, and is very tangible.

Challenge: Reinterpret John 13:34 in light of the new definition of "love".

Go!

Those are some of my favorite AP lyrics.

I agree, Amy. If I'm really listening to Andrew singing those lyrics, they never fail to bring a tear to my eye, tears of yearning and hopefulness and thankfulness.

Euphrony, at Steven Delopoulos's concert tonight, I asked him what the plans are for Burlap, and, since this was the last show on this tour, Steven was worn out and couldn't remember what the next thing is they'll be doing. But he just moved back to Nashville a couple weeks ago, so we'll probably grab some coffee sometime next week. I'll let you know if I find out anything else about Burlap.

Okay. I was just a wee bit freaked out when I clicked on your blog and the words to the song I am listening to at this very moment appeared! (thanks to myfriendamy who sent the CD to me!)

I cannot stop listening to this CD! I have been signing along so many times, and got a lump in my throat so large, I couldn't continue singing.

AP reinterpretted it beautifully, what more could I add?

Cristy, I actually got The Far Country from Amy, too. I had other AP stuff, but not that one and I won it from her a few weeks ago. Sorry to freak you out, but maybe God is trying to say something?

Stephen, thanks for the update. And, yeah, those are some beautiful thoughts.
